Reflective Fusion
For the fashion and multimedia design diploma show, a dramatic multimedia set has been created to highlight the clothing pieces by graduate students Marcelo Almiscarado and Francisca Santos. Therefore, the set design was inspired by Douglas Gordon‘s Feature Film (1999) exploring a sense of visual intimacy, the known and unknown, abstraction versus concrete. In order to translate these characters into a spatial experience, a complete dark space has been conceptualized to surround hanging clothes that naturally rotate under white spotlights. Furthermore, a video projection of abstract details of the physical objects was installed to shine on translucent voile fabrics enabling a sense of mystery between the physical pieces visible through the light projection. The spectator is invited to explore the objects in front of and through the translucent fabrics influenced by the video projection as well as behind the fabrics while discovering the pieces with intimacy and closeness.
Full installation size in space: 4000x3000x3500mm
Materials: Voile fabric, digital projection,
pinspot LED, jute twine
